  3. CONTENTS AND NOT-CONTENTS
  4. When a debate is concluded, or an amendment discussed, 
  5. the Speaker will read out the motion again, and say 'as 
  6. many as are of that opinion will say Content - the 
  7. contrary Not-Content.' If at this point there are cries of 
  8. both 'Content' and 'Not-Content', then the Speaker calls '
  9. Clear the Bar' - and a division, or formal vote, takes 
  10. place. The Lords then register their votes, as in the 
  11. Commons, by walking through the appropriate Division 
  12. Lobby, where their names are recorded and counted by 'tellers' appointed by each side. The Speaker then reads the result of the Division.

  14. In practice, the great majority of divisions in the Lords take place on amendments to Government bills.
